Fabric From the Fastlane

So I get to do some cutting
(not my favorite part)

but it is made better by the fabric I get to cut...

Aren't they wonderful?

(This is for my sister
- who is turning 25 this winter-
and lives in NYC)

So what pattern should I use to highlight them?

Home is Where the Heart Is

With a new move, comes a new house.

And it takes me a while to make that house into a home.

This is a step in the right direction.

I still have to quilt it.

But here are the individual blocks.

You can see the hearts in the middle.

And another

And the last one

Now where to hang it...

Quick and Easy Milkshakes

It has been hot here…
like 105 degrees hot.

And being allergic to dairy,
hitting the local ice cream store is not really an option
(at least as a family activity-
Chris and Eden have been known to go
when I am not around).

So we make quick and easy milkshakes!

What you need is:
a blender
a spoon
cups and straws for everyone
milk (or soy milk)
flavored Ice-cream (or ice-cream substitute)

We like ours melty, so they go up a straw!
To make that happen, we use equal parts
ice cream and milk - eyeballing it!

Once the ice cream and milk are in the blender,
we count together to the number six:

Before we start spooning it out into the cups.

It is just that easy!
And everyone (especially the dairy-free mommy)
is supper happy!

What is your favorite flavor milkshake?

This day we made mint-chip for the dairy people and cherry for me!

A few of my favorite things…

I had the chance to go to camp with kiddos from church last week.

While it was exhausting, it was amazing!

(at the camp fire, having fun!)

(my Chris and I matching.
I think he was making fun of me, but I did not notice!)

(We had a week-long skit for the kids where I was "Super-Girl"
not Super-Woman for fear of copyright infringement!
Chris was "Super-Guy")

Doing the ropes-course/zip-line

Fantastic week!
The best part was that we made silly hats for kids with cancer.
Each child made a hat,
each child prayed for the child who will get it.
Very, very special.

What did you do last week?

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Moving late-spring put a damper on my gardening plans.
(Now, let me be honest, rarely do my “plans” actually come to fruition.)

So at the farmer’s market in our new home town,
we bought two plants that had already grown a significant amount.

A tomato pant
(not sure why…I am the only one who likes tomatoes in our family)

And a purple pepper plant.
(just for the rhyme..you know…Peter Pepper)

Aren’t they beautiful?

Are you growing any plants? Any good suggestions for next spring?

Last Chance 4th of July Dessert

Looking for a last minute dessert for the 4th of July Cookout?

Try these from Oopsey Daisy.

Eden and I made a few
using blue sprinkles I found in the baking department at Joann's.

And with the left over chocolate, I made some blue and white bark.

First, spread it thin on a piece of wax paper,

put it in the fridge,
and then let your two-year old break it up.

Fantastic on ice cream or brownies!
Yum. And so very easy!

Plantain Shutters

With warm, brown walls in our new living room,
I was looking for something special.

And I think I found it.

It went from this
(from my recent trip to the Habitat Re-Store Store)

To this:
(yes, I let them dry in my bathroom after staining them)

To this:

What do you think?

Now if my husband would just hang them!
